More workers get bonuses in 2022 — but they got less overall.
Bonus season is coming, but early returns show the checks will likely be smaller than a year ago — at least for many workers.
“You are seeing that increase in places where the labor market is relatively tight,” Pardue said. “Businesses are still working hard in those sector to attract talent and retain talent, and that's why they are still handing out bonuses at the same rates as last year.” While the overall trend suggests bonuses are trending downward, Pardue said some metrics remain above pre-pandemic levels. For instance, about 5.5% of workers got bonuses in 2019, compared to 6.2% in November 2022.
