Houston nonprofit The Rose launches 'Let's Talk About Your Breast' to encourage mammograms

The breast screening unit is expected to provide 2,500 mammograms to women across 41 Southeast Texas counties during its first year.is reaching out to women through its “Let’s Talk About Your Breast” campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.
The Rose, a breast health and imaging center, provides breast cancer screenings and treatment regardless of patients’ ability to pay. The Rose aims to dispel stigma and stereotypes by starting conversations about breast health. The organization is encouraging women in their 40s and beyond to talk about their breasts with friends, family, care providers and online.
“In many cultures, discussions about the body and health are often silenced,” said Dorothy Gibbons, the organization’s CEO and co-founder. “Early detection offers a 98% survival rate. We want to help normalize these conversations and to raise awareness that 40 is the age to begin annual screening mammograms.”, an estimated 19,921 women in Texas will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, and an estimated 3,415 will die from it.
The Rose’s mission is to save lives through quality breast health services, patient advocacy, and access to care for all. In conjunction with the Let’s Talk About Your Breast campaign, women are encouraged to take charge of their health with these five ways:helps women before they visit The Rose and after, increasing access to affordable, accessible doctors in addition to providing mammograms.
