Rutgers has learned who its final opponent in Las Vegas will be.
will face UNLV in their third game at the Players Era Festival on Thursday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The final contest was decided late Tuesday night after all the action from the first two days at the multi-team event in Sin City concluded.
UNLV lost its first game of the event to Maryland and is currently facing Alabama in its second game. Rutgers will look to snap a three-game losing streak and leave Las Vegas with a win for the second straight year. The Scarlet Knights dropped their first two games at MGM Grand Garden Arena this week against Rutgers was dominated by the Volunteers, trailing by as much as 36 points before eventually cutting the final deficit to an 85-60 loss. The Scarlet Knights seemed to be headed toward a similarly-lopsided loss to the Irish, but after falling down by 19 points in the first half, they battled back to nearly pull off an impressive comeback. Ultimately, the late flurry came up short as“I knew coming in here we’d learn a lot about us,” head coach Steve Pikiell said Tuesday after the loss to the Irish. “This is an elite tournament, as you guys know, with really good teams, and you’ve got to play 40 minutes.”Brian Fonseca is the Rutgers athletics beat reporter for NJ Advance Media.
