“In a way, you’re walking with someone down the aisle,” says the Australian fashion designer of her inaugural bridal wear collection.

Although Bianca Spender hasn’t been a bride herself, perhaps she can sympathise with those who have suffered from last-minute jitters. Last September she was planning to launch her first bridal collection in October. However, at the eleventh hour, the Sydney-based designer knew something was off with the 30-piece collection hanging in her Darling Point studio.

Next week, Spender’s inaugural collection of 15 bespoke bridal styles and six bridesmaid dresses and gowns will finally get their big day. It will be available to browse online, and potential customers can then book a consultation with Spender herself, who will make the selected style to measure, hand-fitting it over a series of appointments in the brand’s Double Bay boutique.

But proposing that Spender identified wedding gowns as a commercial opportunity is met with vehement and vigorous head shaking. Fans of Spender will note her signature draping in designs in the collection re-envisioned from current and archival bestsellers, such as the Gravity gown and the Isabella.James Brickwood

“I really wanted to bring an element of modernity to this,” says Spender. “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about bridesmaids and how much we see of their backs,” she laughs. “I’ve included details like cut-outs to ensure that when they leave the room, they leave an impression!” I wonder what Carla Zampatti, Spender’s mother, would think of this new collection and the 45-year-old hoots with laughter.

TikTok ‘admitted’ Australian user data is ‘accessible’ in ChinaTikTok ‘admitted’ Australian user data is ‘accessible’ in ChinaShadow Cyber Security Minister James Paterson says the social media app company TikTok “admitted” to him via correspondence that Australian user data is “accessible” and has been accessed in mainland China. He said he “immediately” forwarded the correspondence in July last year to Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security Clare O’Neil. “Nothing has happened in the eight months since then,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia. “What we’ve also had in the meantime is an admission from TikTok that they used their application to spy on a journalist in the United States who had been writing critical articles about them to try and physically co-locate them with TikTok employees to identify those journalist sources. “All social media apps that are headquartered in authoritarian countries and typically that is China – pose a degree of risk to us.”
