Her hits like “Sexy Villain” and “Disco Man” are perfect for lounging in the park with aThe hip-hop group AG Club came out of Antioch, and its members are quick to point out how this sets them apart from hip-hop artists in the Bay Area’s more recognizable cities.
“It’s not as alive as the rest of the Bay is like Oakland or San Francisco. It’s a trickle down area where we get the excess,” Jody Fontaine, one of the group’s rappers and writers, said in a 2020 interview with. “... Us not being directly in the center of all the activity, we got to be exposed to a bunch of different inspirations outside of a regional sense. We grew up around Bay Area music, but we weren’t the Bay Area kids.
This distinction means their music isn’t tied down to a particular regional sound, something that can be heard in songs like “Memphis” and “COLUMBIA.”
