A new book has detailed Queen Elizabeth II’s sad final days as the ailing Monarch struggled to complete her duties.

Inside, Mr Jobson revealed the late Queen’s extraordinary sense of duty after her attendance at her own platinum jubilee celebration had “hung in the balance for days”.

By the time of the Trooping the Colour celebrations in June, the late Queen was struggling with reported “mobility issues” and was using the aid of a wheelchair.“On her insistence, a military-style exercise was put in place so that no one could see she was having to use a wheelchair," Mr Jobson wrote.

“After a firework display, the Queen smiled with delight. It was her last salute to her people,” he wrote. Despite her happy appearance, the Queen was likely experiencing great physical discomfort as she stood on the balcony and watched the annual RAF fly-past for her birthday.
