We asked actor Henry Golding, who partnered with Citi on its newest premium travel and dining rewards credit card, about the sunglasses, packing cubes, and running gear he can’t live without.Bandit Running is a local New York brand, sort of grassroots, that started as a community run club.
. I’ve always believed in supporting small businesses where possible, and it’s such a cool company to get behind. I love the long-sleeve running tops — super-baggy, breathable — and the under running shorts are super-dope. I can do a pretty reasonable 5K. Anything above that and my knees start giving away. I wouldn’t call myself a serious runner, but once I get into sort of a routine, then 5K a day is the perfect sweet spot for me.I met Nicolas Travis, the founder, about ten or 11 years ago back in Singapore. My routine is very basic: I have a cleanser, a moisturizer, and an oil or something additional, but all of it works just so well, and that’s what I travel with. I try to keep my little wash bag to the smallest possible, so carrying around too much doesn’t really work for me. He has this insane lineup of products and things, but I keep it very simple. I use the. The nighttime cream is amazing. I’ve sort of gotten everybody around me to start using it. It works so well and doesn’t overmoisturize or give you spots or anything like that.that I had been following for maybe four or five years. He does these amazing 20- to 25-minute follow-along workouts, which is the big difference. It’s one thing having somebody telling you what to do, but when they’re actually doing it and you’re following along, it’s like a brainless activity: You just have to literally follow what they’re doing. I find him the best when I’m on the road and need a quick workout, a 20-minute sort of blast. He’s awesome. At home I try to keep as minimal equipment as possible. I used to have a massive workout gym back in L.A., but it slowly got overloaded with kids’ stuff. I’ve turned to just having two 16-kilo kettlebells, which does wonders.I’ve been traveling since I was 23. I was a travel host before I was an actor, and the majority of my runs were around Southeast Asia. I went through the many iterations of a Samsonite and now I’ve landed on Tumi. I take my travel gear really seriously and have very specific criteria. It has to be a hard shell; it has to be super-light and easy to go around with. Tumi is stylish and practical, so that’s the meeting point. I’m all black when I travel just because I just get so dirty and my bags get filthy. When I go to the airport it’s like a funeral, per se.The big Patagonia clamshell is one of my favorites. They do some dope travel bags. I’m a big fan of their sustainability model, so I’m a bit of a gorpcore geek. I’ve become obsessive about packing cubes. It keeps everything folded and in order and you can just de-rig your bag as soon as you hit the hotel, take everything out, put it out, lay it out flat, you know exactly where everything is, you don’t have to rummage, and then you can put away the big suitcase. That’s my favorite thing. I’ve just become geekily obsessive; I’ve got my wife on to it. I’ve been doing it for so many years. I can’t imagine raw-dogging it and just throwing clothes into a suitcase.. There’s a scene in that movie where I’m at the wedding and I’m drunk and bitter, and those were my drunk-bitter sunglasses. I think they do a couple collaborations, this one in particular was Alanui, but they do these limited runs of really beautiful, unique sunglasses. I don’t leave home without them usually. As I mentioned, my background is travel, which is why I decided to collaborate with Citi on the new Strata Elite Card. It’s perfect for getting the most out of my flights and my hotels and getting the points that I deserve. Literally, I was looking through my statements the other day and I was like,And it’s airplane tickets and dining experiences. My dinners are between $500 and $600. Sometimes I’ll comp a friend here and there, but that’s a constant through the week. And when you’re booking flight tickets, why not get the ultimate reward for that in points?is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape.
