Henry Cavill wearing sunglasses in 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'
For years, Henry Cavill has been one of those actors whose name never really leaves the James Bond conversation. Even when another frontrunner takes over the rumor mill, he somehow circles back into it again.
That makes sense. He looks like he was built in a lab to stand in a tuxedo, glare at someone across a casino, and then throw them through a wall five minutes later. But Cavill’s latest Bond update takes the fantasy in a slightly different direction. In a new interview with Heat, Cavill said he does not see himself as the right fit to start a fresh run as 007 now, but he is still very interested in being part of the franchise. “I didn’t turn the role down — it just wasn’t the right time,” Cavill said. “What actor wouldn’t love to be Bond? But at 42, I’d probably be considered a bit old to start now.” He then added, “I would love to be a Bond villain, though. If it was the right character, I think that would be fascinating to explore.” That comment lands at a pretty interesting moment for Bond. Amazon MGM officially tapped Denis Villeneuve to direct the next 007 movie in June 2025, making him the filmmaker now steering one of Hollywood’s most closely watched franchise resets. Later reports also confirmed that Steven Knight had come aboard to write the script, meaning the next Bond film is finally starting to take clearer shape behind the scenes, even though no actor has been officially cast as Bond yet. Cavill already proved in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. that he can do old-school spy charm, and in Mission: Impossible – Fallout that he can flip that polished movie-star image into something much more intimidating. In other words, if Villeneuve wants a Bond antagonist with real screen presence, Cavill is not exactly a hard sell. As stated, if you really want to see Cavill in a spy caper that shows off what his Bond might have looked like, check out Guy Ritchie's thriller. Collider’s review stated that The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is exactly the kind of movie Ritchie was made to direct. It is slick, playful, and full of style, even if the story itself is pretty thin. The film works best when it stops worrying about plot and simply enjoys being a breezy 1960s spy adventure. The sharpest the film gets is in its cutting portrayal of American and Russian stereotypes and making sure neither one is too shiny or repulsive. Cavill is debonair to the nth degree, but it’s the character’s criminal side that makes him alluring. He’s a do-gooder because his alternative is a prison sentence for being a con man and art thief. While Cavill was fine as Superman, this role makes far greater use of his charisma and savoir-faire. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
