Hempfield girls volleyball continues ‘tradition,’ wins sixth consecutive district title
The Black Knights have dominated District 3 since the turn of the century, winning 16 district titles . Thursday night, No. 1 Hempfield continued its reign of dominance with a 3-1 victory over No. 2 Central Dauphin in the District 3 4A title game.The Black Knights were led by an outstanding defensive performance. They were active at the net and dug every ball off the floor. Hempfield ’s defensive play allowed them to create good looks at the net for hitters Addison Leber and Kennadi Strassmann.
“We faced adversity and they just kept pushing through and grinding as a team,” Hempfield head coach Andrew Olree told PennLive.com. “I think what got us here didn’t come to play tonight,” Central Dauphin head coach Josh Brenneman told PennLive.com. “Our serve and pass game was a bit off… Overall, I thought it was a great match, we just have to clean up our side of the net.”With the score 17-16 in the fourth set, Central Dauphin sent a ball back over the net which ended up out of bounds. On Hempfield’s side of the court, the back judge called the ball out on CD. However, on CD’s side, the back judge called a tip on Hempfield.
