America's employers slowed their hiring in August in the face of rising interest rates, high inflation and sluggish consumer spending but still added 315,000 jobs. The thermometer still might read more than 100 degrees, but Phoenix-area employers are starting to gear up for the holiday shopping season, while others seek to fill ongoing labor needs at a time when the Arizona jobless rate hovers around 3.3%.
Using a streamlined process, UPS allows job seekers to fill out online applications and get hired in about 25 minutes. Nearly four in five seasonal positions don’t require an interview, the company said. Nearly 35,000 seasonal employees nationally earned permanent positions at UPS after the 2021 holidays. The company said its full-time package delivery drivers earn an average of $95,000 per year, plus $50,000 in contributions to health, wellness and pension benefits. Among other benefits, eligible employees have the opportunity to earn up to $25,000 lifetime for college tuition and expenses.The U.S. Postal Service will host a job fair Friday, Sept.
The service has openings for carriers, mail handlers, support employees, automotive technicians and other positions.
