The Coast Guards had launched a search and rescue mission spearheaded by the USCGC Oliver Henry to find the missing trio.
The United States Coast Guard rescued a trio of Pacific Islander fishermen from the Pikelot Atoll on Tuesday, April 9. Stranded for over a week since Easter Sunday , the men had been living in dire circumstances following the unfortunate incident.
“In a remarkable testament to their will to be found, the mariners spelled out ‘HELP’ on the beach using palm leaves, a crucial factor in their discovery. This act of ingenuity was pivotal in guiding rescue efforts directly to their location,”“This successful operation underscores the effective coordination and partnership between the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy, and regional partners. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved,” she added.
They also confirmed they had recovered and partially repaired their fishing skiff with the exception of its damaged outboard engine.
