The 1987 cult classic horror film, Hellraiser, will be re-released in theaters in 2025 to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
The cult classic horror film, Hellraiser , cemented director Clive Barker 's place as a legend in cinema history. The 1987 film, based on Barker's 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, introduced audiences to the terrifying Cenobites , creatures summoned by a mysterious puzzle box. The story follows Frank, a hedonistic man who opens a portal to hell seeking extreme pleasure, leading to his gruesome dismemberment.
When his brother and his wife move into Frank's old house, Frank's wife, still in love with him, plots to regenerate his body using the blood of unsuspecting men. The film's iconic lead, Pinhead, portrayed by the late Doug Bradley, became synonymous with the franchise, reprising the role in seven subsequent installments. For the first time in 37 years, Fathom Entertainment will bring a newly remastered version of Hellraiser to US theaters on February 5 and 6, 2025. The rerelease coincides with the film's 40th anniversary and offers fans a chance to experience the chilling classic on the big screen. The original cast included Sean Chapman as Frank, Andrew Robinson as Larry, Clare Higgins as Julia, Ashley Laurence as Kirsty, and Oliver Smith as Skinless Frank. Other notable Cenobites were portrayed by Nicholas Vince, Simon Bamford, and Grace Kirby. The Hellraiser franchise has continued to expand beyond the original film, spawning ten more installments directed by various filmmakers. These include Hellbound (1988), Hell on Earth (1992), Bloodline (1996), Inferno (2000), Hellseeker (2002), Deader (2005), Hellworld (2005), Revelations (2011), and Judgement (2018). Each film explores different aspects of the Cenobite mythology and the consequences of tampering with the supernatural.
