The Carolinas and Tennessee are reeling from catastrophic flooding and mudslides that knocked out homes, roads and bridges. Food and water are running low in some areas. NBC News' George Solis reports from Asheville, North Carolina.

At least 65 deaths have been confirmed as a result of the storm, at least a third of whom were killed by falling trees.

“Greenwood Fire Department was able to cut the person free and he was removed,” county coroner Sonny Cox told NBC News.The Federal Emergency Management Agency has deployed more than 3,200 staff and federal partners to help with the response to Hurricane Helene, it said Saturday. “Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster,” the statement said.ASHEVILLE, N.C. —A historic village in western North Carolina is under water after bearing the brunt of devastating flooding damage from Hurricane Helene.
