The project, described as a 'fictionalized drama', centers around famed author Patricia Highsmith , known for her iconic Ripley novels. Mirren portrays Highsmith in a twilight phase of her life, residing in Switzerland , when she encounters a charming literary agent (played by Alden Ehrenreich ) who attempts to persuade her to pen another Ripley -themed book.
As their collaboration unfolds, the lines between their reality and the fictional world they are creating become increasingly blurred, hinting at a darker and more sinister undercurrent to the agent's intentions.Joining Mirren and Ehrenreich is English actress Dakota Cooke, known for her roles in films like Ouija and Sound of Metal, as well as the television series Slow Horses and Bates Motel. Anton Corbijn, renowned for his work directing music videos for iconic bands like U2 and Nirvana, will be at the helm of Switzerland. Corbijn has successfully transitioned to filmmaking, helming notable movies such as The American, A Most Wanted Man, and Life. The screenplay for Switzerland is penned by Joanna Murray-Smith, based on her own play of the same name. The film boasts a stellar production team including Gabrielle Tana, Troy Lum, Andrew Mason, Jim Robison, Kurt Martin, Karl Spoerri, and Andre Occhipinti. Italian line producer Enrico Ballarin is also on board, with FilmNation Entertainment handling international sales. The cast is currently limited to Mirren, Cooke, and Ehrenreich, but further additions are expected as production progresses.
