After recent terrorist attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, military installations across the U.S., including Camp Pendleton and the Naval Base in San Diego, are implementing increased security measures at all entry gates.
Recent terror attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas have led to heightened security at all U.S. military installations, including Camp Pendleton and the Naval Base in San Diego. All entry gates now have increased security measures, resulting in longer wait times. These measures include 100% ID checks and random inspections.
Camp Pendleton 1st Lieutenant Jorin Hollenbeak stated that Commander NORTHCOM directed all military installations to implement these heightened security measures due to the recent events. The Trusted Traveler Program has also been suspended, meaning 100% ID checks will be conducted for everyone, without exceptions. Shawn VanDiver, founder of the Truman National Security Project San Diego Chapter, explained that the Trusted Traveler Program suspension means that even those with DOD ID cards will no longer be waved through. VanDiver noted that security changes at military bases are common and occur based on fluctuating threat postures, both local and national. The Naval Base is also affected by these security changes
