According to the NWS, Alaska and Montana are likely to be hit by heavy snow and blustery winds.
Between 4 and 10 inches of snow are expected to fall across the southwest parts of Kodiak Island until late Monday afternoon, especially along the Gulf side of the island. Lower amounts—around 1 to 2 inches—are likely across the Shelikof Strait side of the island, in areas such as Karluk and Larsen Bay.
According to the NWS, heavier, steady snowfall is expected to taper off into light snow showers by Monday afternoon and will gradually fade away completely overnight. Areas across the northeast side of Kodiak Island are likely to see between 6 and 10 inches of snow until Monday night, with the heavy snow showers giving way to lighter snow overnight, dispersing by Tuesday morning. The areas around East Glacier Park in northwestern Montana, near the eastern edge of Glacier National Park, are expected to get up to 15 inches of snow along the highest peaks. In the lower elevations, between 2 and 4 inches of snow are expected, and at Marias Pass, between 4 and 8 inches of snow are forecast. Alongside the heavy snowfall, 50 mph winds are likely, with localized gusts reaching up to 65 mph, until mid-Monday morning. This is likely to make travel “very difficult” due to blowing snow, which will significantly reduce visibility through Monday morning, especially over the higher passes. Across the rest of Glacier National Park, between 2 and 6 inches of snow are forecast in places above 4,000 feet, and less than 2 inches are forecast in areas below 4,000 feet, with winds reaching 35 mph until mid-Monday morning. The NWS warns that, each year, on average, more than 6,000 people are killed and nearly 500,000 injured due to weather-related vehicle crashes. Drivers are advised that if they must travel during periods of heavy snow, ice, and wind, they should slow down; make sure friends and family know where they are going and what route they’re planning to take; never leave without a full tank of gas, and always carry a winter survival kit which includes a flashlight , a shovel, blankets, spare clothes, drinking water, and high-calorie, non-perishable food., ours is different: The Courageous Center—it's not"both sides," it's sharp, challenging and alive with ideas.
