SAN ANTONIO - It has been an absolutely amazing and very rare late July pattern in our region. We talked about this pattern coming last week and it is really s

tarting to deliver on welcome rainfall and a big cool down. Best part about it too, we still have a ways to go before we're done with rain chances and cooler than normal temperatures.

So the big question, are we seeing a response from our rivers and lake levels? The quick and short answer, very much so with our rivers and lakes are slowly increasing but have yet to receive the full surge of water flowing down the rivers. The Guadalupe River reached minor flood stage in Kerrville for the first time since Oct. 2018. The peak flow reached 14,000cfs in Kerrville and now it is flowing down the river. Comfort has seen a spike in river flow from this morning.

Medina River is also seeing very strong river flow after 5" to 9" of rain the past 2 days. In fact, the river flow at the sites on the river is daily record. We'll see how much the lakes increase from this rain but it should be decent. There is certainly more work to be done and even more rain than this is needed.

Fortunately we do have more rain in the forecast but the heaviest in the Hill Country is now past. Additional rain will fall in the Hill Country but not the widespread heavy rain we've seen. Instead, the focus shifts to our southern and eastern half of the area for the coming days. This weekend, higher rain chances will spread west through the weekend and then the pattern shuts off next week.
