An Arctic blast arriving on Thursday will dump heavy snow over several states in the Great Lakes Region.

A potent blast of Arctic air sweeping across the eastern United States is set to unleash heavy lake-effect snow across the Great Lakes, with some areas bracing for accumulations of over two feet by Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for communities downwind of Lakes Superior, Michigan, Erie and Ontario, as conditions are primed for intense snowfall.

The snowfall is accompanied by punishing cold temperatures and gusty winds.AccuWeather meteorologists reported that feels-like temperatures had plunged into the 20 to 40 below zero range in parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota on Wednesday.Although the Arctic air will lose some potency as it moves eastward, cities like Chicago and Pittsburgh will experience bitter cold, with single-digit wind chills and highs struggling to reach the 10s and 20s.
