Actress Heather Locklear shares her surprise at being cast in the iconic television series 'Melrose Place' at the age of 30, believing she was 'too old' for the show. She recounts her excitement to take on a different role as a businesswoman, Amanda Woodward, and the impact the character had on her career.

You guys were all 20, early 20s."age, Locklear became an integral part of the Fox series, filling the role of the villainous Amanda Woodward for the duration of the primetime soap opera.
She was on 199 episodes, beginning in 1993, well into the first of seven seasons, which concluded in 1999. Locklear would have been 31 when her first episode aired. Locklear, now 63, explained that she was excited to join the series about a group of friends living in the same apartment complex, because the role was something different for her. So when she was offered a four-episode arc, she immediately agreed."I just said, 'I wanna be a businesswoman,'" Locklear recalled. "I don't wanna be Sammy Jo from. I don't wanna, like, be a quirky girl.'" The four episodes, of course, turned into years afterChip Hayes, who produced, wrote, and directed the show, said on the podcast last month that Spelling had always considered Locklear to be his"star boosted ratings. From 1994 to 1997, she also won four Golden Globe nominations in a row for her performance.In 2009, the actress reprised her role on the CW's version of the show.
