Heartbroken mum pays tribute to son with a 'beautiful soul' after sudden death

The mother of a young man who took his own life has issued an emotional plea to men who may be struggling with their mental health.

Ben's mum heartbroken mum Deborah has now urged others who might be in a bad place to be 'be honest and talk to someone.' Deborah spoke during the inquest about how her son had a 'beautiful little soul.' "I couldn't force him to take medication," Deborah said. "I'd say 'how are you feeling' and he would say he was fine. It was more out of embarrassment than privacy; thinking that he wasn't a man. He always thought he was a burden to everybody." In 2021, after attempting to take his own life, Ben spent 10 days in a mental health unit. Experts who assessed him said that what had happened was a "situational crisis" and that they were confident Ben was much improved.
