WHP - Heart to HeartOver 10% of the U.S. Population suffers from diabetes, which can significantly someone's chance of heart disease.
Diabetes is the result of sustained, high blood glucose. It comes from food after it's broken down and your cells use it as fuel for your body. Sometimes, you will have too much glucose in the bloodstream, because it simply can't reach your cells effectively. “When those blood sugars are not well managed, or well controlled, it has many effects on the body," says Karen Bachman, WellSpan Dietician & Diabetes Educator.“Insulin is a hormone that’s produced by the pancreas and its role is that it helps clear glucose or sugar out of the blood," Bachman explains.
Diabetes is known to increase the risk of heart disease. However, it can be managed by staying active and eating healthy.
