Injuries made Kris Bryant a bystander in 2022, but veteran Rockies outfielder proclaims himself 100% ready for spring training.

But injuries made him a bystander on the bench and a daily tenant in the training room. First, there was an early-season lower-back injury. That was followed by a debilitating bout with plantar fasciitis and a bone bruise in his right foot — an injury that sometimes made it painful to simply step on the floor when he got out of bed in the morning.

Bryant began working out in earnest in October, about two weeks after the season ended. He’s incorporated sprint training into his routine. He’s been working in the batting cage since November — setting the pitching machine for high-velocity fastballs — and said he’s had no problems with his back or his foot.

“He’s worked with a lot of NBA players and he was a huge help,” Bryant said. “I worked with him before, back in 2019 when I sprained my ankle toward the end of the season.” “Kris being out, with as good a player as he is, cost us a lot of production,” veteran right fielder and designated hitter Charlie Blackmon said. “Having Kris back is going to be big for us.”“The on-base component is huge,” the manager said. “He’s near the top of the league for his career . And he’s not only going to get on base and score runs, but he’s going to knock them in because he’s a good hitter with power.

Bryant admits that 2022 was a “crappy situation,” but quickly added, “You have to look for the positives in all of the crappy situations in life.”“I got to know a lot of the guys and that’s important,” he said. “I mean, you spend over 200 days a year with these guys, so you’d better like each other and you’d better enjoy hanging out with each other.”
