‘When you’re on the way down it’s really worrying because we can all see just how serious this illness is.'

, the senior politician said: ‘When you’re on the way down it’s really worrying because we can all see just how serious this illness is.Describing his worrying rapid weight loss, Mr Hancock added: ‘I’ve lost half a stone. It’s quite a serious impact directly. But thankfully for me I could get through it and I managed to keep working through it.’

Mr Hancock said he had come out of seven days of isolation “redoubled in my determination to fight this virus with everything I’ve got.“And we will strain every sinew to defeat it once and for all. “And I will stop at nothing to make sure that frontline staff have the right equipment so that they are safe and can have the confidence they need to do their jobs.”They will include antigen tests, which tell people whether they currently have Covid-19, as well as antibody tests to see whether people have previously had coronavirus.

Experts say testing is important to track the spread of the pandemic and give the UK hope of exiting the lockdown, with those who are confirmed to have already had the virus able to return to work. Mr Hancock, who has recovered from Covid-19, announced a new “five-pillar” strategy to increase the country’s testing capacity.
