PUTRAJAYA: The absence of sporadic Covid-19 cases in the community from samples taken by the Health Ministry since Feb 12, indicates it has not gone into the community, says Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said all the cases which tested positive in Malaysia had a travel history to Covid-19 affected countries and close contact with other patients, said the Health director-general.

"Up to Monday , 574 samples have been taken from those patients and none of the samples tested positive for Covid-19. Meanwhile, to prevent overcrowding in public hospitals for Covid-19 tests, the ministry had also collaborated with the private sector for doctors to go to homes to collect samples of patients who have concerns about being infected with Covid-19.

Dr Noor Hisham said that public hospitals had been swamped with people asking to be tested but said many were doing it out of fear and did not meet the criteria of people under investigation .
