A coroner has been told convicted deputy manager Kate Roughley will not be lodging an appeal
A nursery worker convicted of killing a nine month-old baby in her care will not be lodging an appeal, a court was told.
Roughley, of Basil Street, Heaton Norris, was caring for Genevieve in her role as deputy manager and 'baby room leader' at the nursery in May 2022. Manchester Crown Court heard that had shown 'hostility' towards Genevieve in the days before her death. She was overheard on CCTV telling the crying child to 'stop your whinging', calling her a 'stress head' and singing 'Genevieve, go home... Genevieve, go home'.
GMP Detective Inspector Charlotte Whalley said the force has now received notification 'there will not be an appeal'. He said how Genevieve came by her death had already been 'ascertained' by the court and submitted the inquest shouldn't be resumed as a result after its previous opening. Ms Mutch said the council was 'in the throes' of a 'lengthy and complex' investigation into 'practices at the nursery'. She said an expert was currently looking at 'many, many hours' of CCTV 'in order to determine whether any charges should be brought under legislation'.Genevieve, known by her parents as Gigi, was unable to move and face down from 1.35pm to 3.12pm as Roughley ignored her distressed cries, her trial was told.
