UN agencies have demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, saying that 'enough is enough'. The heads of 18 organisation including UNICEF, the WHO, the World Food Programme - as well as charities such as Save the Children - issued a rare joint statement describing the 'horrific' loss on both sides.

The statement called for the unconditional release of hostages taken by Hamas during its 7 October attacks. However, it said the killings of 'even more' civilians in Gaza and the besiegement of the population was an 'outrage'. The statement said 88 UNRWA workers, the agency focussed on Palestinian refugees, had been killed since 7 October, the highest number of UN fatalities 'ever recorded in a single conflict'. 'We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
