A headmaster issued a statement after 'hazardous gases' were released in a Northern Irish school. Dr David Carruthers, Headmaster at Coleraine Grammar School, also revealed three staff members were advised to attend hospital.

BelfastLive reports emergency services were called to the school on Castlerock Road at around 4.12pm on Tuesday, March 31. The statement read: 'There has been a chemical incident at Coleraine Grammar School which resulted in hazardous gases being released in a confined area. No pupils were on site due to the Easter holiday and three members of staff were advised to attend hospital . 'The ambulance, fire and police services attended and the situation is fully under control. The school is working proactively with the emergency services to ensure a full clean-up takes place as soon as possible.' Six fire appliances were sent to the scene alongside five ambulances and harazardous area response teams. A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 16:15 following reports of an incident in the Castlerock Rd area of Coleraine. NIAS despatched a Rapid Response Paramedic, 3 Emergency Crews, 1 Advanced Paramedic, 1 HART Crew, 1 HART Officer and 2 Ambulance Officers to the incident. 'Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 3 patients have been taken to Causeway Hospital.' A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: 'Firefighters were called to reports of a chemical incident at a premises on Castlerock Road, Coleraine. Firefighters utilised breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and gas monitoring equipment to ensure a safe resolution of the incident. 'Three casualties were left in the care of NIAS and conveyed to hospital. Firefighters began departing the scene from 7.50pm.' Get More of Our News on Google.
