The bond market has been volatile, and recent events have created divergences between prices and fundamentals, according to a top fixed-income executive at Morgan Stanley . Vishal Khanduja said he sees rare mispricings in the bond market that smart investors can take advantage of.
Speaking with Business Insider, Khanduja shared several key areas he thinks investors should watch in 2026. Khanduja cited several geopolitical events that have spiked volatility recently, including the US raid on Venezuela and President Donald Trump's Greenland negotiation announcements at the World Economic Forum, noting that they caused prices to disconnect from actual fundamentals for roughly 48 hours."For an investor who's focused on medium to long-term returns within the market, that provides a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of some of those mispricings," Khanduja saidDisruptive events over the last several years have often created target-rich environments for investors, he said. "All of that led to quite a few opportunities that active managers could actually take advantage of in positioning and add alpha versus the passive benchmarks," he said.Khanduja said he sees significant mispricings in areas such as rates and credit markets."Cross market value and rates have quite a bit of opportunities, not only from volatility, but also from dispersion, where different central banks in various parts of the developed and emerging market are acting differently," he said.He cited the differing economic trajectories between nations, such as Japan, Europe, and the US. While Khanduja thinks the K-shaped economy in the US, in which higher-earning households are driving spending and generally doing better than lower-income households, is driving uneven credit outcomes, he thinks credit markets still look like a good value. "Dispersion and volatility across those three elements of rates, cross-market relative value, and then credit, are offering opportunities," he said.
