Eagles snap 20-game skid with 36-7 romp over Spring Woods
Aldo Ramero registers the safety as he tackles Spring Woods quarterback Travis Ainsworth in the end zone during first-half action Thursday night. When that traditional Gatorade bath was poured on head football coach David Zapien, all of the program’s struggles suddenly ceased to exist.
With the win, Pasadena ended a possible school record 20-game losing streak, a drought that went all the way back to the 2019 campaign when the team toppled Sam Rayburn in the season finale. The program had just come off an 18-game skid that arrived during the 2016, 2017 seasons. “I’m just glad for our seniors. They told us they were ready to win. The first game of the season we lost 20-14, but they were anxious to finally get a W. The coaches did a really good job of coaching up the kids because we were inside two of the three days. The coaches really had a good game plan going into today. The kids executed really well. That was the key part for us,” Zapien said.
Unbelievably, at halftime, Pasadena had run 41 plays to Spring Woods’ 10 and not a single first down. Oh, and the intermission score was every bit as unbelievable. The Eagles were beating an opponent 23-0.
