Seven paintings by celebrated Australian artist Arthur Boyd are going under the hammer in Melbourne on July 24.
Seven paintings by celebrated Australian artist Arthur Boyd have emerged from the private collection of his friend and promoter, Sydney art dealer Denis Savill, and will be offered at auction on July 24 – the date on which the artist would have turned 104.
Savill was astonished to find that London galleries referred to Australian contemporary art as “colonial”. Savill described Boyd as gentle, caring, empathetic, and ahead of his time in terms of his concern for the environmental damage being done to the planet. Despite ominous economic indicators, Savill believes his Boyds will find new homes. “There are still a lot of buyers prowling around who’ve still got money,” he said. “Art collectors haven’t run away yet.”“The names of Arthur Boyd and Denis Savill have for many decades been inextricably linked,” Smith & Singer chairman Geoffrey Smith wrote in the auction catalogue.
