‘He saved us in a lot of ways’ Guardians exec praises versatile rookie pitcher

Guardians officials praise rookie Xzavion Curry for his work in the bullpen and the rotation this season.

Curry entered Wednesday’s matchup against the Dodgers with a 3.60 ERA since joining the starting rotation. In 25 relief appearances prior to that, he boasted a 3-0 record and a 3.06 ERA over 50 innings. Sixteen of those appearances were multi-inning outings as Curry was used in long relief to preserve the Guardians’ over-taxed bullpen.

Whether as a reliever or as a starter, manager Terry Francona said Curry has shown tremendous progress this season no matter what role he has been given. Francona sees Curry’s versatility as a bonus. Curry said that routines and preparation allowed him to move out of the bullpen with minimal disruption.
