A Canal Winchester mother is being called a hero, after dying from trying to save her young son's life.'It was her only son, just being taken from her, she cou
"It was her only son, just being taken from her; she couldn’t let it happen," said Hayden Swartz , Alexa Stakely 's stepbrother. "She’s a fighter."According to police, her car was stolen with her 6-year-old in the back seat when she quickly went back to grab an item from the babysitter at the front door. Detectives report Stakely ran towards the car to save her son and was hit in the 6300 block of Blue Knoll Drive. She died later that morning at a hospital.
"Knowing that he’s going to not have a mom in his life anymore, I think that’s the toughest thing," Swartz said. She was also a speech-language pathologist at Winchester Trail Elementary, and her students called her Ms. Alexa. "The whole time, all she cared about was making an impact really, and she went to school for a long time, studied hard, and had really good grades, and it was all to make sure she could teach kids the best she could," her stepbrother said."I think that’s kind of a lesson we can all learn is life’s so short, and there’s no reason to chase after all these different things, and really we’re going to get the most out of giving back to our community and people we love," he said.
There's a community vigil July 17 at 7 p.m. at Winchester Trail Elementary. It's open to the public and candles, bubbles, and cards for the family are welcome.showing them wandering through nearby apartment complexes and condos located east of Gender Road, north of the Gender Park Condos, and south of Wright Road. Police are asking neighbors for any footage that shows the suspects overnight from July 10 to July 11.
