Robert Menendez shook New Jersey’s political world on Friday, with Republicans denouncing the senior senator and calling for his resignation, while Democrats remained largely mute as the stunning allegations were made public.faces federal bribery charges

“The indictment of Sen. Menendez is a sad day for New Jersey, but not surprising,” said Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, a Republican running for Senate. “‘Gold Bar Bob’ has been battling credible allegations of corruption throughout most of his time in office, all while being protected and enabled by his cronies and allies in Washington.”

On Friday, Menendez remained defiant in light of his second indictment, in which his wife, Nadine Arslanian, was also charged. Appearing on Fox News on Friday, former Republican Gov. Chris Christie called the allegations damning.
