“The indictment of Sen. Menendez is a sad day for New Jersey, but not surprising,” said Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, a Republican running for Senate. “‘Gold Bar Bob’ has been battling credible allegations of corruption throughout most of his time in office, all while being protected and enabled by his cronies and allies in Washington.”
On Friday, Menendez remained defiant in light of his second indictment, in which his wife, Nadine Arslanian, was also charged. Appearing on Fox News on Friday, former Republican Gov. Chris Christie called the allegations damning. A former federal prosecutor, Christie said it will be difficult for a U.S. senator to explain why he would keep that kind of cash in his home.The state Republican Party called for Menendez to resign.
