Helfrich spoke Friday on the phone with Alaska’s News Source, confirming multiple times the attack was unprovoked. Earlier this week, Sitka Police told Alaska‘s News Source they believed Helfrich was experiencing homelessness, but over the phone Helfrich told Alaska’s News Source after being out of work he’s been finding places to stay with friends and family.“I was drinking that night. I was going from the bar and went down from the bar into the park, and I passed out in the park,” Helfrich said. “I ended up waking up getting my face kicked in.
