Uvalde’s police chief says his department is wrapping up an investigation into claims...
Nikki and Brett Cross are introduced to the crowd during the La Raza Unida Party’s 50th anniversary reunion conference held at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Downtown Campus on Sept. 15, 2022. The Crosses have since separated, and Brett Cross is currently under investigation in Uvalde for an alleged family violence incident involving Nikki Cross.
“She was crying,” Rodriguez said in an interview with the San Antonio Express-News. “She appeared to be undecisive whether she wanted to say anything at all or not. But she finally opened up and said that she would make the report with us.” In October, the Crosses mounted a 10-day sit-in outside the Uvalde school district’s central office that drew national attention. Brett Cross, who has garnered nearly 51,000 followers on Twitter, routinely excoriates Gov. Greg Abbott and other political leaders on the social media platform for their failure to enact gun control laws.
A police report obtained by the Express-News said the incident began at 1 a.m. on Jan. 7 when Nikki Cross went to Brett Cross’s house after receiving a series of text messages that left her concerned for Brett Cross’s welfare. “Brett then struck Nikki on the right side of her face with his palm,” Officer Jessica Zamora wrote in the report. “I did observe a bruise to Nikki’s right cheek. Nikki said Brett then pushed down to the ground and got on top of her body in a straddle position in order to pin down to restrict her hand movement. I observed several bruises on Nikki’s arms, wrist, and knees.”
“He told the officer that Nikki actually forced her way into his home and removed property, personal property, from his residence and some of that property was gifted by his family,” the police chief said.
