Entrance of the trauma center at the Medical City Arlington in Arlington on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Dallas-based Medical City Healthcare, a division of HCA Healthcare, is in exclusive talks to acquire Wise Health System, the Decatur, Texas-based hospital system’s board of directors announced Tuesday.

The move would mark yet another expansion in Texas for HCA, which operates 47 care sites across the state. Less than one year ago, the Nashville-based healthcare giant announced plans to build five new hospitals in some of the Lone Star State’s largest cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth. The Wise Health System board unanimously supports evaluating an affiliation with Medical City, chairman of the governing board Carey Williams said.

“The governing board of Wise Health System believes strongly that pursuing the path of collaboration is a crucial, proactive measure to ensure we are well-positioned to continue our mission of providing compassionate and innovative care to our community and patients with transparency excellence for years to come,” Williams said.

Wise Health System, formerly known as the Decatur Community Hospital, serves residents in five North Texas counties and serves as the largest employer in Wise County with more than 1,800 employees, according to the not-for-profit hospital..
