Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in Lanterns
After a long wait, the first trailer for Lanterns is finally out, showing Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the new DC Universe, and after I had some initial doubts, the footage proves the casting for the Green Lantern legend was done right.
After a solid 2025, multiple DC Universe projects will release in 2026, with Lanterns being the only confirmed live-action DC TV show. In addition to the pressure that comes with that, the series has the task of making up for 2011's failed Green Lantern movie, which ended up putting the hero on live-action timeout for over a decade. Lanterns' talented ensemble is led by Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The former does something surprising in the trailer. The First Lanterns Trailer Is Finally Out Recently, a Lanterns teaser was screened to select members of the press at private events. Now, HBO has officially released the first Green Lantern TV show trailer as part of a first look at its 2026 lineup. Alongside the Lanterns footage were new looks at shows like Euphoria, House of the Dragon, Industry, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and many more. Given that it was part of a larger HBO TV show slate sizzle reel, we only get a brief look at the world of Lanterns. However, the DC series packs a huge surprise in the footage. The Lanterns trailer shows Hal Jordan training John Stewart, making the hardcore move of sending Stewart in a car flying right off the edge of a cliff. He has to pick up a Green Lantern ring and use it to avoid death, while Hal watches on from the dirt road that he jumped onto as he sent the car flying. There are other moments that show a town hall meeting, and a brief look at Hal and John investigating something, which speaks to the show's True Detective-like tone. How HBO's Green Lantern TV Show Trailer Proves Kyle Chandler Is Perfect As Hal Jordan After watching the first Lanterns trailer, I have changed my mind about Kyle Chandler's casting as Hal Jordan. While he is a great actor, I was unsure about casting the 60-year-old actor as DC's most prominent Green Lantern from the comics. I wanted Hal to play a big role in the DCU, but it seems that for however long we get to see him, it will be more than worth it. Chandler perfectly embodies the daring and impulsive attitude that Hal Jordan is known for in the brief Lanterns teaser. His stunt with John Stewart is something I could totally see happening in the comics. The different personalities of the two Green Lanterns shine in the trailer. As such, DC's Lanterns trailer has me even more excited about the Green Lantern TV show.
