The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and run over by a BMW sedan on Thursday.
A chain-reaction crash that killed a motorcyclist also caused hazardous materials on the road to shut down multiple freeway lanes on Thursday in the East Village, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. when a Suzuki GSX-R600 that was being ridden recklessly lost control near Interstate 5 south of J Street, ejecting the rider into the roadway, said CHP Officer Michael Wessendorf. A BMW sedan driving in the same direction was unable to avoid a crash and ran over the rider, Wessendorf said. The rider died at the scene. His or her name was not immediately released, pending notification of their family. Due to the need for cleanup procedures and recovery, the two left lanes on the freeway were closed until about 1:40 a.m., Wessendorf said.Fourth Padres suitor becomes publicNightmare start for Nick Pivetta, Padres in opening-day loss to TigersShortage of air traffic controllers triggers heavy delays at San Diego airportFirefighters should take 1 or 2 minutes to prepare for a call.
