Hayden Christensen spoke up about the racist attacks leveled against ObiWanKenobi actor Moses Ingram, who plays Reva in the Star Wars show. 'It really saddens me...She’s not only a lovely person and human being, but an incredibly talented actress.'

Hayden Christensen has spoken up about the racist backlash fellow Obi-Wan Kenobi co-star Moses Ingram has been facing. The new Disney+ Star Wars series features Ewan McGregor back in the titular role, with Hayden Christensen reprising his iconic role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Ingram plays Reva Sevander/Third Sister, an Imperial Inquisitor tasked with ruthlessly tracking down Kenobi at Vader's behest.

In the latest trilogy of Star Wars films, both John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran were the subjects of racist abuse online, and this abuse eventually led to Tran removing herself from social media entirely. Now, since Ingram's first appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the actress has been met with racist backlash online, sharing some of the messages she's received.

“I’ve heard a little bit about [the racist remarks] and, obviously, it really saddens me. I think the world of Moses. She’s not only a lovely person and human being, but an incredibly talented actress. The first time I saw the first couple of episodes, I was blown away by her performance and just thought that the subtleties and nuances that she brought to this character were there and really impressive. So, I mean, I hope by the end of the series, people are coming around.

The Star Wars franchise is, unfortunately, no stranger to dealing with racist attacks. After the abuse Boyega and Tran faced, Lucasfilm warned Ingram before the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi that she might face something similar. Ingram recalled Lucasfilms saying"this is a thing that, unfortunately, likely will happen. But we are here to help you; you can let us know when it happens." However, it is not just new Star Wars projects which have drawn in viral harassment.

With a franchise as large as Star Wars, there will always be those who choose to do harm - especially from the relative anonymous safety of the internet. Though hatred has always been spewed at actors, social media allows abusive commentary to be spread more widely and viewed more easily than ever before. Social media has, however, also offered a platform for actors to speak up for themselves, and to defend their co-stars.
