Sen. Josh Hawley , R-Mo., asks questions during a Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee hearing to discuss election security and the 2020 election process on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, on Capitol Hill in Washington. shielding immigrants married to U.S. citizens but residing in the country illegally from deportation.
Amnesty for illegal aliens is absolutely unacceptable,” Sen. Hawley's letter begins. “It is a lure that will drive millions more illegal immigrants to flood across our southern border. It is a slap in the face to U.S. taxpayers.” The senator continues by condemning Mayorkas’s “get-across-the-border-free card” approach to immigration parole. Such policies, Sen. Hawley said, are detrimental to America.
“In light of your abdication of responsibility to enforce the law, President Biden’s recent promises to secure the border should be seen as what they are—empty and meaningless,” Sen. Hawley wrote. “Indeed, this latest proposed amnesty is transparently an attempt to curry favor with far-left activist groups, who opposed even President Biden’s toothless rhetoric about border security.”The reality is that some people do indeed try to game the system,” he said.
“If we take a look at migration not just at our southern border, but in context, the level of migration throughout the hemisphere is unprecedented and throughout the world,” Mayorkas continued. “It’s the greatest level of displacement of migration since World War II.”Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news.
