Owen Wilson became a victim of ghosts in a 1999 horror film, but the new Haunted Mansion gives him the opportunity to revive himself.
24 years after The Haunting, Owen Wilson can defeat ghosts in Haunted Mansion. Eddie Murphy starred in 2003's The Haunted Mansion, based on the ride at the Disney parks. According to the trailer, the reboot follows a similar concept of a guest arriving at the mansion and being greeted by its many ghostly inhabitants. However, most characters are different from the first film other than Madame Leota, who Jennifer Tilly portrayed in the 2003 film, and Jamie Lee Curtis portrays in the reboot.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT However, Wilson's character is not based on the Disney ride and didn't appear in The Haunted Mansion either. In Haunted Mansion Wilson portrays Prêtre Kent, a priest who was hired to help rid the New Orleans mansion of its ghost residents. This isn't Wilson's first experience in a haunted home, as he played Luke Sanderson in 1999's The Haunting.
Owen Wilson Can Defeat Ghosts In Haunted Mansion After Being Killed By One In The Haunting In The Haunting, Luke was one of several guests invited to stay in the haunted house, not knowing he was part of Dr. David Marrow's experiment to study the psychological response to fear. Marrow was unaware the house actually was haunted, and by the end of the film, Luke was killed when the ghost of Hugh Crain decapitated him for destroying his portrait.
Haunted Mansion Should Be A Much Better Owen Wilson Movie Than The Haunting While Jackson's novel is critically acclaimed, the 1999 adaptation sadly did not receive the same praise. It received mostly negative reviews and was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. The Haunted Mansion was also considered a failure upon release, but in the years since its premiere, it has become much more popular, especially around Halloween.
