Harvey Weinstein charged with sexually assaulting 2 women in Los Angeles by rachsandl

Harvey Weinstein walks away from the courtroom in New York City criminal court on January 6, 2020.with sexually assaulting two women in Los Angeles, prosecutors said Monday, just as the disgraced former film mogul’s trial in New York began on separate sexual assault charges.

Weinstein was indicted on charges of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery by restraint. The two incidents allegedly took place over a two-day period in 2013. On February 18, Weinstein is accused of going to a hotel and raping a woman after pushing his way inside her room. The next evening, prosecutors allege, Weinstein sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel suite in Beverly Hills. If convicted of all the charges, Weinstein faces 28 years in a state prison.

Eight women came forward in 2017 to report sexual assault perpetrated by Weinstein to the Los Angeles Police Department, but three of those cases took place outside the statute of limitations and another three are still being investigated, said District Attorney Jackie Lacey in a press conference Monday.

The indictment is the first filed as a result of task force created by Lacey to investigate sex crimes in the entertainment industry.: “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them,” Lacey said in a statement. “I want to commend the victims who have come forward and bravely recounted what happened to them.
