Obituary: Harvard economist Dale Jorgenson removed much of the mystery from studies of what drives economic growth
, a Harvard economics professor who improved methods of determining what drives economic growth, died Wednesday at a hospital in Cambridge, Mass. He was 89 and had respiratory problems.
Dr. Jorgenson pioneered methods that added more detail and precision to the measurement of productivity and illuminated the vast contribution of advances in electronics and computer technology in boosting economic growth. He provided insights on which public policies are most apt to improve investment, productivity and living standards. He deplored tax policies that deterred capital investment.
