Harry Styles is making a comeback. After teasing his return for a while, the Grammy winner will be releasing his fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, on March 6, 2026. But as fans of Styles count down the days until his new music drops, we're looking back at one of his most underrated projects, the 2018 sitcom Happy Together.
Despite not being known for his acting on TV – with only guest roles in iCarly, or hosting Saturday Night Live – Styles made a brief stint as an executive producer on the CBS series. What Is 'Happy Together' About? Inspired by the time Styles lived in his longtime collaborator Ben Winston's attic for 18 months, Happy Together follows thirtysomething couple Peter and Claire as Peter's client, mega pop star Cooper James , moves in with them. In an attempt to get away from paparazzi, Cooper looks to Peter and Claire for a taste of normal, suburban life, as well as a much-needed break from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. For the couple, on the other hand, having Cooper around brings excitement and adventure to their otherwise mundane daily lives, reconnecting them to their younger, cooler selves. In each episode, the unexpected trio adjust to living together, showing each other just how different they are. In the pilot episode, for instance, Peter and Claire show Cooper one of their favorite traditions together: parodying songs as their voicemail messages. While Cooper finds it silly at first, he joins in with his guitar by the end. The series, created by Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl, was also executive produced by Winston via Fulwell 73, who also produced the Late Late Show with James Corden. The rest of the cast also includes Stephanie Weir, Victor Williams, and Chris Parnell, as well as guest appearances from Damon Wayans and Peyton List.Posts 1 By Jessica Nobleza 'Happy Together' Got an Unfortunate Abrupt Ending Despite Styles being in the producer seat, Happy Together was canceled after its first season. The decision was made by CBS in 2019 due to poor ratings. After a promising opening with 5.9 million viewers, per Variety, the rest of the series lacked the same buzz, with an average 1.0 demo rating from 18–49 and 5.26 million viewers in each episode, via Deadline. Plus, according to the outlet, production was rushed on the first six episodes of the series due to West's pregnancy at the time. As such, ratings went up after that, but not enough to save the show. A quick look at the series' Rotten Tomatoes scores also proves that Happy Together received mixed reviews. The 13-episode season scored 74% from viewers, and an underwhelming 53% from critics. Despite the comments on the series' lack of originality and played-out comedic tropes, highlights across the board were the lead performances from Wayans Jr. and West, who have an"impeccable chemistry together" onscreen. As a reminder, the pair previously shared the screen together in New Girl, where Wayans Jr. played the hilarious Coach. With that said, while Styles' tenure as one of the executive producers on Happy Together only lasted 13 episodes, the series is certainly a hidden gem in his career. After all, from his massive studio albums and movie roles like Don't Worry Darling and Dunkirk, his involvement in the series is probably his least known, but probably the one that most shows who he's really like. After all, while Cooper James isn't a carbon copy of Styles, his adventures with Winston were certainly inspiration.
