HBO has finally unveiled its magical return to Hogwarts in Harry Potter season 1's first official teaser trailer. A full look at Dominic McLaughlin's take on the titular wizard, the halls of Hogwarts, and more of the ensemble in his first year at Hogwarts have finally been revealed.
Check out the Harry Potter season 1 teaser trailer below: Adapting the 1997 novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first trailer reveals iconic moments such as getting his letter from Hogwarts, meeting Hagrid, getting his wand, and arriving at Platform 9 3/4 as he meets Ron Weasley. The teaser also gives a glimpse at the Sorting Hat, classes from McGonagall and Snape, a quidditch match, and the Gryffindor first years going up against Slytherins like Draco Malfoy. Furthermore, Harry Potter season 1's first trailer reveals some new scenes for the series that weren't included in the book or movie adaptation. For instance, there are in-depth depictions of Harry being seen at his muggle school prior to being sent his letter to Hogwarts, with Harry also seen engaging in a snowball fight in his first year while Hagrid makes snow angels. The trailer also confirms that Harry Potter season 1 will premiere on Christmas Day 2026, with the freshman outing consisting of eight episodes. Previously, HBO had the release year set for 2027. In addition to Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, the main cast of Harry Potter season 1 includes Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Francesca Gardiner serves as the series' showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing. Alongside the trailer, which sets the first season's title as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, HBO has released a new set of official images from the upcoming episodes. The new stills include closer looks at Nick Frost's Hagrid, Dudley Dursley, the new trio walking together at Hogwarts, Draco in class, Albus Dumbledore in the halls, and Professor Severus Snape in Hogwarts' snow-covered woods. The release of HBO's new series version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will arrive almost exactly 25 years after Warner Bros.' film adaptation in November 2001. Directed by Chris Columbus, the original Harry Potter movie became an instant cultural phenomenon, launching young actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into stardom as they continued to reprise their roles through 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Though the present focus is on the Philosopher Stone adaptation's release this Christmas, HBO intends to adapt all seven Harry Potter books across about a decade. Writing is confirmed to already be on the way for Harry Potter season 2, which will tackle the 1998 novel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, though HBO's CEO Casey Bloys indicated that the series is unlikely to have annual releases. HBO's Harry Potter series premiering on Christmas 2026 closes out a huge year for the network's franchise releases, which kicked off with Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in January, continues with House of the Dragon season 3 in June, and will see the return of Dune: Prophecy. While Dune: Part Three is primed for blockbuster success on the big screen over Christmas 2026, Harry Potter season 1 is set to simultaneously give WBD a massive win on the small screen.
