The Harry Potter series saw the Boy Who Lived survive Voldemort because of luck and plot armor, but that was always the theme of Harry's story.

The titular Harry Potter was the hero of his story because of luck - but that was the entire point. Though the series has long been beloved, fans have often poked fun at the fact that the Boy Who Lived survived again and again because of plot armor, not because he possessed any amount of skill. It seemed that Voldemort and his Death Eaters weren't trying very hard and that killing a boy with no real obvious talent shouldn't have been such an issue.

Voldemort's efforts to overcome Lily's protection only further ensured his death. When he used Harry's blood to create a new body for himself, it added yet another link between himself and the boy. Lily's protection existed in Voldemort's veins, so Harry couldn't die while the Dark Lord lived - which is why Harry survived the Killing Curse for a second time in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The reason the Dark Lord chose Harry came down, yet again, to Lily Potter. Tom Riddle had been a half-blood wizard, and though he detested this fact, he recognized the cruel irony that often came along with magic. Since Harry's mother was Muggle-born, while Neville was a pure-blood, it made more sense to Voldemort to choose the former. The Harry Potter villain didn't realize that if he had chosen not to act on the prophecy at all, it would never have come true.

The Resurrection Stone and Elder Wand were the easiest of the Hallows to obtain, but the true mystery was the Cloak of Invisibility. By its nature, it was nearly impossible to find, so it had managed to stay in the same family going back to its inception. Harry was a direct descendent of Ignotus Peverell, one of the three Peverell brothers who made the Deathly Hallows. If this hadn't been the case, Harry never would've united them.
