Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Harry Miller may have a role with the football program following his retirement for medical reasons related to mental health.

may have a role with the football program following his retirement for medical reasons related to mental health.

sitting for an interview, talking about his experiences and encouraging others with the same struggles to find help.“We’re still trying to figure out what that means for him,” Day said. “The fact that he retired from football is one thing, but he still wants to be part of the program and find a way to make an impact. We said we didn’t need to make that decision right now. We’re going to give it a little time and try to figure out what that is, but he certainly has a lot to give.

Mental health for young people has been a personal cause for Day throughout his coaching career. His own father, Raymond, died by suicide when Day was 9 years old. He and his wife started the Christina and Ryan Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness in conjunction with Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s On Our Sleeves program.

“This is this is a huge decision for Harry. It took a whole year to get to this point for him. You can tell how emotional he was about it, because football has been a huge part of his life. So to step away, it was a big deal, and now he’s kind of repurposing himself and that’s not easy to deal with. But I’m proud of what he’s done. He’s got a lot to offer.”
