A Merseyside Derby goal from Jack Harrison could force a Liverpool fan to wear an Everton shirt as five of the Blues squad have the chance to join an exclusive club
After opening his account for the club in spectacular fashion against Bournemouth before the international break, Jack Harrison will be looking to join the list of Everton derby debutants to score against Liverpool – if only to force his Kopite former coach into donning the royal blue jersey himself.
Blues derby debuts don't get much better than this as the club's then record signing Andrei Kanchelskis bagged a second half brace in front of the Kop to secure a famous Everton win, the first from a bullet header on 53 minutes and the second a powerful low drive 15 minutes later. Olivier Dacourt, a £3.8million signing from Lens the previous summer had missed the derby stalemate at Goodison in October but took just 41 seconds to fire Walter Smith's side ahead at Anfield.
A Leighton Baines own goal put the visitors in front and after they raced into a 2-0 lead on 20 minutes, scorer Luis Suarez celebrated by diving in front of Blues boss David Moyes who had accused him of going down early before the game. Everton had the last laugh though as Leon Osman reduced arrears just two minutes later and Steven Naismith drew them level on 35 minutes with his first goal for the club, meeting Marouane Fellaini's left wing cross to fire in from close range.
Blues boss Ronald Koeman sprung a surprise when he handed 22-year-old academy graduate Matty Pennington his first appearance of the season at Anfield but it was no 'April Fool' from the Dutchman.
