The Cougars are angling for their fourth straight D3 crown
Harrisburg head coach Calvin Everett talks to Messiah Mickens during a timeout in Harrisburg’s 7-6 win over State College in high school football on September 7, 2024. Vicki Vellios Briner | Special to PennLiveMid-Penn conference power Harrisburg goes for its fourth straight District 3 6A title Saturday when the sixth-ranked Cougars meet No. 5 Wilson. Kickoff at Exeter Township HS is 1 p.m. Below is a closer look at the championship matchup.
A 35-14 semifinal triumph is no easy task, but RB-DE and Penn State recruit Messiah Mickens has elevated his presence on both sides of the ball. Harrisburg’s other key components, like WR-FS Elias Coke, WR-DB Quincy Brannon and versatile Nehemiah Ewell just keep adding fuel. And this defense? Man, you’ve got to work overtime to sustain drives against this group.
First-year starting QB Madyx Gruber has been terrific as a savvy dual threat. He’s connecting on 65% with 24 touchdowns. Gruber is also approaching 1,000 rushing yards. RB Correll is ticking off 6.1 yards per carry with 13 scores. Big TE target Michael Glover excelled in Wilson’s 28-20 semifinal dub vs. Central York last week at Gurski Stadium.
