If the election were held today, 48% of respondents said they would vote for Trump. A nearly identical figure of 47% said they would back Harris., highlight “risks and potential rewards” for Harris during Tuesday night's debate. President Joe Biden notably dropped his reelection bid after a poor showing against Trump in their debate earlier this year.
“Overall, the poll may bring Democratic exuberance back to earth after a buoyant party convention in Chicago last month and rapid gains in support for Ms. Harris after Mr. Biden’s poor showing in the polls,” NYT wrote. Nearly half of voters also said Harris was too liberal, compared to just 32% who said Trump was too conservative. Respondents agreed Harris leads in areas such as democracy and abortion, whereas Trump leads on the economy and immigration.
